Oral dysplasia, proliferative verrucous leukoplakia (PVL), and soft tissue cancers present challenging clinical scenarios to the oral and maxillofacial surgeon. Management of these pathological entities requires knowledge of their biological behavior combined with an ability to offer appropriate surgical treatement when indicated. This presentation will review basic priciples of understanding necessary for decision making in the diagnosis and treatment of these disease processes. Treatment discussion will focus on management at the primary site with options reviewed and clinical cases presented in order to demonstrate management principles in both straightforward and complex clinical scenarios.
